How bad is it to drive without inner fenders?

Will it actually damage anything or just make a mess? I’m trying to get the Corvette ready for the Oppo Meet and it currently has no inner fenders. Pictured: my engine if it was nice.

I’ve always worried about the electrical connectors that are going to be pounded by dirt and more water.

Won’t hurt, as long as there’s nothing hanging down to rub on the tires that would normally sit against the fenders and as long as you don’t go through too many puddles.

If you’re driving where it’s muddy/raining/snowing/salty - probably not so great. If the weather is nice? You’re probably fine.

I was actually reading about aftermarket fender liners for the Mini this morning, and I decided that the additional ventilation matters much more. Of course it does, because I don’t drive it in rain or snow. And yes, there are vents cut into the inner wing.

Of course, I’d make sure you’re super conscious of what kind of wiring etc is inside there. It would suck to have a pebble or piece of road debris kick up and break something.

Needs to be carbon fiber

Long term not a good idea, but for a short ride I can't see the harm.

It would be uncovered for two 9 hour hauls to and from Chicago. :/

Yeah fine I say. Might have some abrasion on the inside of the fibreglass, but that’s quite abrasion resistant.

Driving it for a year or two like that would cause problems.

Hmmm, maybe small possibility of a rock getting thrown into a belt of some kind.

Mate of mine had a lowered 106 GTi that didn’t have arch liners. No issues with belts, but the constant sandblasting caused pretty significant rust issues over time. Not likely an issue on the vette :)

Not sure, if I would risk it in a C3...if your wheel kicked anything up, it can go anywhere. If you’re careful, why not?

C3s are tricky business, but if yours is that far apart, you should be able to get to everything just fine. If you had a complete car, that might be a different story though, those engine bays are damn near as tight as my R129 with the M120.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll try to get them done if there’s time.

Well I have six days to get this car ready for Chicago. And this is my list of stuff to do. Fenders might not get done to prioritize other items on the list.

Carbon fiber on a classic car isn’t a thing I’ll consider doing to my car.

Simple enough, I think you’ll be fine. I had a much longer list for the HEMIWagon the first time I had the entire front end apart.

Oddly enough, I plan on ripping the front end further apart eventually.

If I wanted a light car I would have bought one. I wanted a brash, bruiser, of a sports car. I want it to be old and clunky.

driving without inner fenders, will uually affect the cooling of the engine. the air, isnt as directed through the radiator, and past the engine, so it is not as efficient.........

its not anything ridiculous, like going to overheat, but it will cause it to run possibly in the range of +10 degrees down the highway...... its how the air is directed, something about high and low pressure zones......
